Venezuelan singer, model and actor Paul Morris is taking the Netherlands by storm and has the honour of contributing to the official song for Pride Amsterdam in 2022. He was born in Caracas, where he also grew up, and is the child of a Dutch mother and Venezuelan father.
Latin and pop singer Paul says that gender is a choice you can make yourself.
He sang Latin pop songs, jazz, funk and classical music. His talents were noticed and not long after his graduation, he got the opportunity to participate in the TV programme DanceSing. It’s all about pop stars who can sing and dance and was tailor-made for Paul. In 2019, he performed at the closing party of the Pride Parade and even confessed that this was the highlight of his career.
Ten thousand people partying to his songs. Overwhelming. The Pride crowd is the most fun there is because they give you so much back. Paul shared why Pride is so important to him and says, “10 years ago, when I moved to the Netherlands, I will never forget when I saw my first Pride and was so glad to be living in a country that celebrates diversity. Now, 10 years later, I get to be a representative for a community that has given me a huge sense of belonging, recognition and safety.” He hopes to inspire people inside and outside the LGBTQ+ community to embrace all sides of their personality.
Accepting your bright and dark sides is something that we as humans often find difficult; however, it’s incredibly important. Through his music, he wants to warm hearts, make people dance and above all, enjoy life. It is also important to keep the conversation about sexuality and freedom going. You shouldn’t hide your love.
